Scholarship Opportunity

JACKSON LIONS CLUB

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UPPER

DIVISION COLLEGE STUDENTS

 

The Jackson Lions Club is currently accepting applications for a limited number of in-college scholarships ranging from $1500 to $2000 each. These competitive scholarships are available to graduates of Amador County high schools, who are registered full-time college students of Junior or Senior standing and attending classes in the Fall 2025 school year.

 Eligible candidates must:

  1. Have graduated from an Amador County high school (send copy of diploma).

  2. Be of Junior or Senior college standing, registered and attending classes full-time (min. 12 semester units or equivalent) with a good GPA.

  3. Provide evidence of above, after last “drop date,” by an official verification transcript (unsealed) from the registrar or attendance office of the college currently attending. Include unofficial transcripts of all previous college coursework.

  4. Submit all the above along with a letter describing your academic & career goals, personal qualifications, and school funding status. Include your phone, email and residential mailing address.

 

Mail all the above, in one package, postmarked no later than November 1, 2025 to:

Inaguaral Rodeo Queen

Camille Sobon was crowned 2014 Jackson Lions Rodeo Queen during a ceremony held May 24 at Evalynn Bishop Hall in Ione, Calif.

"I am speechless right now," Sobon said after the ceremony. "It was such an honor to be named Jackson Lions Rodeo Queen. I have a lot of pride in Amador County as well as the other contestants I competed against today. I've worked really hard with my horse, and I gave it my all and I'm just thrilled with the results."

 

Judging the contest were Mary Robertson, Andrea Bonham and Steve Graham.

Sobon received a handmade saddle by Hoofs n' Boots Saddlery in Valley Springs, and a silver belt buckle from Montana Silversmith. The Jackson Lions Club would like to thank Les Schwab Tire Company for sponsoring the saddle, and other local business leaders Jeff Votaw, Beau Gillman, Kristi Roots, Anne Lintz, Josh Church and Robert Manassero for sponsoring the event.

"Rodeo is special because it shows the western lifestyle, which I think is really important," Sobon said. "It's all about being rural, being good to your neighbor, good to your family, honest."

Julianne Nevin was named First Runner Up. The Second Runner Up title went to Nalani Pacheco. Rielly May was named Princess. In addition to presiding over the rodeo and representing the Lions at other events, all four young women have agreed to serve as the rodeo's Media Committee under the guidance of Publicity Coordinator Gwen Clayton.

"I am looking forward to mentoring these bright, talented young women," Clayton said. "We will be promoting the event in local, regional and national media outlets, while learning the values of teamwork, leadership and community service."

The Inaugural Jackson Lions Club PRCA Rodeo will be held Sept. 13 and 14 at the Amador County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Calif. In addition to the rodeo, the event will feature a classic car show and home expo. Sacramento's Chris Gardner Band will entertain the crowd Saturday night.
